Sorry guys...doctor says I am out till Monday. So you get a sub again. Until then if they need help or need to re-take the naming test see Ms. Zachman to the south or Mr. Stevens to the North. Do not take anything out of your boxes since I have not been there. Yes it is ok if you need to print the homework in my classroom go ahead and do it.

1st Honors Chemistry -
Get up on the website and if you haven't finished the power points under #5 do so. Get the worksheet 1.20 More moles and complete that.
Then get into the lab area and get the hydrate lab written up in their lab notebook for next time.
Hold onto the Basic mole computation worksheet until I get back, we will correct it then.

4th - AP Chemistry -
Correct their last assignment - It is in the AP Chemistry book by the elmo. Project it and have them turn it in.
I have put up a worksheet that I would like them to do. It is 1.9 Precipitation reactions. I have included two other things that will help them under that same heading in assignments.
After they have completed this, they can finish the pre-lab for the precipitation lab.
They also need to complete the AP chapter #3 power point also.
They can also use the time to complete the demonstration write up and powerpoint on google docs. Have them clear the demo with Mr. Stevens.

Second Week of School...

Wow, where has the week gone. We are following the calendars. Please make sure that you are keeping up.

The grade book is current as of 4:30 pm today. If you don't agree please see me soon. Please let me know if you can't see the calendars. I have reloaded Regular and AP Calendars.

AP notice that I have pushed back the due date on the assignments. Please do the problems that you can...we will be doing more notes next time and hopefully be caught up on the lecture portion.

Please let me know ASAP if you don't understand anything. That is for ALL CLASSES!

I will post the pink shoes only sign on lab days as a reminder... make sure that you are looking at the calendar. Remember that I told you to keep a pair of shoes available at school if you like to wear flip flops. I will try to remind you the day before...but I might forget.

August 26 Thursday

Regular Chemistry - 5, 6 and Honors chemistry 8th
Today we did part of a power point up until the mass slide. (Not 8th)

We did a 1.1 Mixtures- Chromatography lab (regular straight line chromatography and honors radial chromatography) and learned how to write it up a lab. (In honors we set up our lab notebooks).

We got a large periodic table, lab equipment sheet, and hazardous materials sheet. We had questions answered on the online assignements.
Chem 1 is the textbook.

We also got an assignment to make a density column with three layers of liquid and 2 floating object due Wednesday next week. 50 points. Each additional layer or floating object is 5 points up to a total of 100 points.

Remember that extra credit candy M&M's , skittles, or Reese (12-16oz) deadline is coming up.

http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/webs/showell/resources.htm You need to answer the first three questions and the last four questions of the first section in a google document www.google.com/a/davis.k12.ut.us and submit it to me. Login with the year you graduate first initial and last name. The password is your pin#. Then choose docs. Then on the left hand side of the next page is a button that says create new. Choose document. It will bring up a word document. Type in your answers to the 7 questions. When you are finished, there is a button on the right side that says share. Share it with me at showell@dsdmail.net

Chem Think http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/webs/showell/resources.htm - is a tutorial and online homework assignment. You will need to register and then do the tutorial and the questions under the Introduction.

I hope this clears things up.

First two days....

Wow! AP, Honors, and Regular Welcome back!

Sorry we have been having computer problems. I hope that most of the issues are taken care of. We will be getting our computers in our room updated I hope soon.

I now have loaded on the web site a quick link to the google docs hopefully this will solve some of the problems that most of you have been encountering.

I have also loaded the calendar/assignment link under each of the different chemistry classes. Individual months for all classes are not updated. However I have put the term up. It is in a word document and has the links that you need for your homework. It will be continually updated. AP yours is under Term 1. Honors and Regular yours is under your calendar choice.

We have for the most part been following the calendar...except AP your books were not passed out today as they should have been. Next time. Work ahead on the Chem Thinks because we will need to do the book work assignment that you missed doing today because you didn't have a book. Also, look at the chapter 1 power point. We will go through it next time.

Please remember to name your documents Term period assignment# last-name first-name Example: 1 3 1 Hess Jacob I am having many documents turned in with no name attached. If you want credit make sure you have saved it correctly before you share it with me.

Sorry sub today....I have hurt my back.
5th honors Chemistry
They need to do the lab that is on the back table. I have asked that Mr. Stevens to the North come in and help them with this. My gas will need to be turned on. They can do this lab as a lab table. Each side doing two kinds of the metal and then sharing the information. Basically this is how the lab goes. The students need to weigh each of the metals. Put the metals into water and heat them till boiling. "Tare" out styrofoam cup on the scale and then fill it 1/2 full with water and weigh. Place this into the large beaker. Then they will need to start up the program Easy data under the apps program on the computer. Remind them that they will need to take the temperature of the boiling water with one thermometer and the temperature of the cool water before transferring the metal to the cool water. Then they need to stir the water and take the highest temperature after. Then repeat this for the next metal. When their side is done with both metals, turn off the gas. Sit down with a computer for their group and bring up the power point Enthalpy and Hess' law under honors chemistry power points on my web site go through the whole thing as a group.
http://www.davis.k12.ut.us/webs/showell/hchempowrpont.htm
We will correct the assignments next time. Have them check there calendar for the assignment due next time.
6th and 7th are regular chemistry - 6th peer tutor is Ashton and he can help with the lab. Same as above except for the power point go to...regular chemistry and bring up the same power point.
