Regular Chemistry -
Starter:
Determine the change in enthalpy for the following reaction:
C(graphite) + 2 H2(g) --> CH4(g) Ho =
Use these reaction equations:
C(graphite) + O2(g) --> CO2(g) Ho = -394 kJ
H2O(l) --> H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) Ho = 286 kJ
2 O2(g) + CH4(g) --> CO2(g) + 2 H2O(l) Ho = 394 kJ
Lecture:
Chemistry in the News (Extra Credit- Due by 2/17)
Re-introduced to our term project. Showed the website link for it. To summarize the project. You and your lab partner are business partners 10-30 years in the future. You are making a new product that involves chemistry. You are advertising for a position in your plant that involves chemistry. One of you will make a 1/2 size poster to post in the 2300 hall to recruit for the job. The other will be creating a Google.doc to share with me at showell@dsdmail.net The person that creates the Google document, and if you so choose the other student will present to a group of potential employees a 2-4 minute summary. These will be due Feb 16. Please label your document in this fashion period last name last name (Example: 1 kutz tanner) This will help me get the points to the right person.
Lab for Next time: We received and wrote up the procedure and pre-lab for lab 3.4 Factors that Effect Reaction Rates We were able to see the reactions and how they will work. We get to do them next time. Be ready!
Summary: We gave the three things we are experimenting with in our new lab and what reactions we chose to use.
Homework: 3.5 Hess' Law Worksheet
